Return to the days of youth

Our age affects us at every step of our lives. For the first part, we strive to seem older, more mature, adult, and free. We then get older and want to return to the days of youth when our bodies and actions felt freer and more able. The inevitable and frankly often not spoken about part of every woman’s life that is menopause brings drastic and unpredictable changes to the body, including chemical and physical changes. One of the catalysts of change are hormones, the chemical messengers that stop, start, accelerate, or decelerate bodily function. Apart from changes in the female reproductive system, menopause wreaks havoc on the skin and creates long-lasting changes if these changes are not addressed.

The role of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone

The main hormones affected by menopause are estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Estrogen, the “female hormone”, promotes growth and health of the female organs and lubricates the vagina. This is why one of the side effects of menopause is vaginal dryness as estrogen levels fall. Progesterone and testosterone (the “male hormone”) are produced by the ovaries and are responsible for lining the uterus for an egg and maintaining sex drives.

Dops in hormonal levels

Drops in hormone levels also cause the skin to become dry, thin, and loose, thereby accentuating and revealing the aging changes the body is undergoing. Another give-away factor of menopause is the sudden appearance of sun spots or age spots that have been hidden in the young, thick layers of skin. Some women may even grow facial hair during menopause. Wrinkles also become more abundant, for the fatty tissue that supports our skin atrophies or dies away, making our skin fold in on itself. These skin problems can be addressed with a comprehensive and complete system of cosmetic treatments to reverse the signs of aging and rejuvenate the face.
